Evaluation.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Yes my film is like other films I think all action thriller films come into a close knit genre there is only so many things your can come up with and the majority have already been used, but yes my film is rather similar to Columbiana, which is to do with the young girls parents been killed so we took this idea and made it our own, it meets the key features by having parts where you think what’s coming next and who’s that and why they doing that it gets you into the inquisitive frame of mind, we didn’t try to change the genre we tried to stick to the basics of a action/thriller genre.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

They are all presented in the typical way they should be portrayed we have MI5 officers and it shows them using brutal force which most people think that’s how they get there information, they do tend to fall into stereotypes because that’s what people assume they are like, I don’t think they are seen in a positive light but we did try to go for this effect because we want them to be seen as ruthless and go to any length to get what they want.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

There is  2 main companies which could produce and distribute my film, the production been EuropaCorp- these also produced Taken 2, Columbiana and the course which are also all action/thrillers these all have sophisticated storys behind them just like ours, they are all drug related as well as, the distribution company would be Universal- they have distributed Contraband and identity thief, these have also go a sense of our films like drugs related and a boy being the main character, there is violence involved, we try to aim for are film to be as successful as some of these but with a proper production company I think it would be great for people to watch and I think it would be something which would attract a wide audience like these films do, so it would be benefitial for the companies who would produce and distribute because it would boost there profits.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Yes I have, I’ve learnt how to use a camera properly, camcorder, and also the mac’s I have become more aware of how complicated and advanced they are, ive also come to using iphoto, imovie, which we used to edit our filming so I gained skills on how to use these programs as well. We have tried to go for a wide audience because its quite sophisticated story so the older and wiser you are you will get the story but we have tried to involve young characters and also violence to draw in younger audiences because things like that tend to attract the views of the younger generation.
How did you attract/address your audience?

We have tried to attract our audience by using young characters and using violence which mainly attracts the younger viewers, but we have also used a sophisticated story so the older and wiser you are you will understand and appreciate the story to the film. It is based upon a young boy whos parents are killed the young boy escapes from the killers (drug dealers) and then as the young boy grows up he learns to why his parents was killed he is abducted by mI5 operatives and they try to get valuable information on the people that killed his parents but he lets nothing on about it he escapes from the mI5 depot and manages to get in with the thugs to try and get hold of the people which killed his parents so he could finish the job himself and get revenge instead of some officer doing everything by the book because he doesn’t think they deserve to get sentenced they deserve death.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Yes I have, I’ve learnt how to use a camera properly, camcorder, and also the mac’s I have become more aware of how complicated and advanced they are, ive also come to using iphoto, imovie, which we used to edit our filming so I gained skills on how to use these programs as well.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I think I have learnt a great deal from the beginning to the end, I have learnt how to write and draw up my ideas on story boards, I have learnt various techniques on filming like the 180 degree rule, where it means the character is on set and every time the camera is on him he never goes over the line so he’s always on the same side they use this style in such things where they have battles or fights, I have also learnt shot/reverse/shot where it uses and establishing shot so you get a sense of where it is and who’s in the scene then it focuses of the 1
st characters shoulder facing the 2nd character, then looks over the 2nd characters shoulder and focuses on character 1 and then goes back to looking over characters 1s shoulder focusing on character 2, then back to the establishing shot they tend to use this when conversations are taking place, I also learned the match-on-match action as well, which basically means where two shots are edited together so it gives the sense of continuity, so it creates a visual bridge so its takes the viewers attention off slight cutting of continuity issues, it matches two sections of the same thing so it’s a sense of the continuity not two different things been put together.

180 degree-shot/reverse/shot-establishing shot; Week One. Tuesday 16th October 2012.

Week one.

Tuesday 16th October 2012.

In this lesson we learn’t about the rules and techniques which was the 180degree rule, which means the actors stay on one side of the line and don’t cross it, also the shot/ reverse/ shot which begins with an establishing shot, then focuses on character 2 looking over character ones shoulder then reverses so focuses on character 1 looking over character 2’s shoulder then back to the original we also created storyboards which we had a specific story line to adapt to.

This piece of work we did was to portray the 180 degree rule, shot/reverse/shot and also establishing shot.

This was a piece of home work we had to do which we had to show our understanding on using 180 degree rule, shot/reverse/shot and establishing shot, we had to include dialogue.
This is a storyboard showing us going to film in the 180 degree rule style.

180 degree rule-

Show’s the positions where the characters are, once they are in there positions they cant move from their side.
E.g   girl on the right, boy on the left.

Shot/Reverse/shot-

Shot reverse shot is where there’s an establishing shot showing where both characters are, then there’s the shot looking over character 1’s shoulder facing character 2, then a shot of looking over character 2 shoulders facing character 1, then another shot of looking over characters 1s shoulder facing character 2, then there’s the last establishing shot.
